2025 SPRING SEMESTER COMMUNICATIONS INTERNSHIPS

About SIECUS

Since 1964, SIECUS has been advocating for the rights of all people to accurate information, quality sex education, and the full spectrum of sexual and reproductive health services. We believe that sex education is a powerful vehicle for social change. Our focus is on advancing sex education as a means of building a foundation for a long-term culture shift that will positively impact all levels of society, particularly issues of gender equity, sexuality, sexual and reproductive health, consent, personal safety, and autonomy. SIECUS applies an intersectional lens to ensure people’s real lived experiences inform our policy, education, and strategic communications work.

SIECUS internship opportunities are:

  • Spring internships, from Jan through July, with a maximum of 17 hours per week
  • School-year internships, from September through May, for an estimated 17 hours per week
  • Intended for current students or recent grads of both undergraduate and graduate programs

Communications Internship Job Description

Communications interns will report to the Director of Social Impact and Strategic Communications and assist the communications department with its strategic goals. SIECUS believes it is most effective when communicating and interacting with its various audiences—on stage, in written communications, and on Social Media. 

Ideal candidates will be energetic, inventive, hard-working, social media, and web-savvy, with an availability to work 10-17 hours per week for the entire 6-month internship. We seek individuals with ideas about creative ways to engage audiences in the organization’s mission. While assisting with a wide range of projects, interns will gain hands-on experience and training in many aspects of marketing and development while gaining a good understanding of a small nonprofit organization.

Communication Intern Core Responsibilities:

  • Draft social media posts, blogs, newsletters, and press materials.
  • Assist with digital graphics and visual content.
  • Support the development and execution of advocacy campaigns.
  • Collaborate with partners on cross-promotions and campaign strategies.
  • Research media outlets and maintain media lists.
  • Draft press releases and monitor media coverage.
  • Update website content and implement SEO best practices.
  • Upload blogs, reports, and resources.
  • Track and report on social media, email, and website performance.
  • Promote and provide coverage for events and advocacy actions.
  • Research media trends and recommend new communication strategies.
  • Ensure alignment with SIECUS’s brand voice and guidelines.
  • Assist with SIECUS projects and administrative tasks as needed.

Compensation: $17.50 per hour
